Intercontinental development as an Open Educational Resource (OER) and analogue/digital Open-Source Game for the Creative Commons since June 2025
Collect, Play and Create fsys cards. Each card tells a food story and invites us to take on a real-world action mission. By playing cards, we develop our game character, grow our Head, Heart, and Hands superpowers and train our Sustain Ability for regenerating food systems.
fsys is a fresh CCG/TCG common good brand in open development across multiple continents, combining real-time character building inspired by Pen & Paper RPGs with Coopetitive board game mechanics for quick match challenges.
We’re growing toward our first print edition — potentially with Cartamundi — in 2027/28.
We invite Alpha players to become card creators and help shape the final selection for the first planetary print edition in 2027/2028.
We use Open-Source Tools to craft our Card Game.
We share the skills, how to create own cards,
We invite to contribute to our fsysgame.

Playful & Intercontinental: Co-Creating a Food Systems + SDGs Card Game

A Regenerative Food Systems Trade Card Game Grows from a CoFSA Collaboration Across Countries and Continents
Our first fsys 3 month development report just came out on Ktopia. It’s pretty visual and 8 Chapters strong.
Game Principle

Fsys is a Card Game in the Collectible Card Game (CCG) / Trade Card Game (TCG) Genre. It is intended for Fun & Education in Regenerating Food Systems & Practicing the Sustainable Development Goals

Each Card contains a “Mini-Quest”, a concrete Mission to play out in the “real world”

Each Card contains a top value row indicating the simplified food system quadrant the card plays in, the Head, Heart and/or Hand Superpowers involved and up to three SDG Sustain Abilities which have been practiced .

Each time, Players play out a card, they can track their Food System Quadrant, and SDG skills gained through active missions in the ACJ! – the Action Character Journal.
The ACJ! is an optional Game feature. During our first German Pilots we learned, that simply collecting cards and sorting for affinity has been already fulfilling to 80% of our particpants in the age group 10-19. No additional Gameplay needed.
Through freely available Open-Source Tools we empower Youth to become Card Designers, learning the Skills within just 1 Playshop Day
For the Illustration of Cards, we use self hosted, low energy usage, Open-Source AI Tools for Image Generation. Young people learn, how to articulate their concrete imaginations in precise Prompts and iterations. Participants with writing disabilities can use their natural language voice, to express their imagined outcomes.
The AI or hand painted Illustrations are then assembled into a Card with the free, open-source Graphic Design Software Krita which also runs great on old, refurbished PCs with a lightweight Linux.
As our Cards follow the Industry Size of big Brands like Pokémon, Yu-gi-oh! or Magic the Gathering, all World Market Products such as Card Sleeves and Collectors Albums can be used or reused for the fsys Game Cards.
The CCG/TCG Genre Market
The Global Collectible Card Game Market is expected to be valued at USD 17.33 billion in 2025, increase to around USD 20.08 billion in 2026, and is forecasted to reach nearly USD 74.71 billion by 2034, advancing at a CAGR of 15.9% between 2025 and 2034.

The World Market indicates High Resonance among Youth and Adults alike. We can “hijack” this resonance for our common good sector project 😉
The Offline Medium of Card Games runs independent from Electricity and Internet Access and can be used in regions, where no access is available.
As we use Industry size Cards, the existing market products (Card Sleeves, Collectors albums, etc.) can be (re-)used for the fsys cards
Through freely available Open-Source Tools, AI Assistance and low learning curve workflows we empower people to collaborate as Card Designers.
Local/regional “Card Designer” are then enabled to create cards relevant in the context of their region, culture and language and learn valuable, design skills along the way.
Multipliers (Youth Organizations, ..) can be trained to facilitate Card Design Playshops in their region.
Together we create a “Collective Card Game” with each card joining the co-created CCG Brand and World Collection for intercultural understanding of our interconnected foodsystems

Season 1
The Card Crafters
This growing collection and final selection of collectively created cards will then be part of the first “Planetary Print Edition” of our TCG in 2027/28. We are sure that it will reflect food stories and practices from around our shared home: our Planet.
